Multi-instrumentalist, composer and podcaster Ry Moran is one of Canada’s leading figures in Truth and Reconciliation today. The country’s first Associate University Librarian – Reconciliation at UVic, and guest faculty at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, Ry also served as the Director of Statement Gathering for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and as founding Director of the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation in Winnipeg. He is a proud member of the Red River Métis.
Through song and stories, Ry will share some of the hard truths about his work and its critical importance to the future we can build together.

Heat Emergency Preparedness WorkshopColwood Emergency Support Services at Church of the Advent - Monday June 17th @1.30 PM - Tea/coffee and cookies In Victoria, we are experiencing more frequent days of extreme heat. When temperatures rise, it's very important to stay cool. This summer is set to be unusually warm, and we need to be prepared. Join us at Church of the Advent for tea/coffee and cookies on Monday, June 17 at 1.30 PM and attend a heat emergency preparedness workshop by City of Colwood Emergency Support Services. Come and learn how to take steps to reduce the impact of extreme heat in your living space, be aware of those at risk, the symptoms of heat-related illness, and where to go to cool down. You can also receive your free Extreme Heat Preparedness Guide. Please share this invitation with all who need to learn how to manage the dangers of a heat dome. |

Centering PrayerMonday, June 17, 2024 Join us for a moment of Centering Prayer on Mondays at 4pm. Please contact us for location information if you interested in joining this group. Our Centering Prayer group meets every week. Each meeting opens with a short reading, followed by a chant or prayer. We then practice 20 minutes of silence as an opportunity to move into profound silence which creates a spiritual space to rest in God. Pride EucharistWednesday, June 26, 2024 Join Christ Church Cathedral for a Pride Eucharist in collaboration with the parish of St John the Divine to rejoice in the fullness of love and diversity in God’s family. Regardless of how you identify, or how you relate to the divine, you are warmly invited to join us, knowing that all sexual orientations and gender identities will be affirmed and proudly celebrated. Wednesday, June 26, 7pm at Christ Church Cathedral The service will feature guest preacher Rebecca Yeo. The Rev'd Canon Jeannine Friesen, Priest in Charge, will preside at the Eucharist. Mark McDonald,Assistant Director of Music, will be directing a pop-up choir with participation from a variety of parishes. The service will be in person and livestreamed. It will be followed by a reception with refreshments in the nave. All are welcome! Come and join us! |

Soup Making MinistrySoup available for parishioners Last month a group got together and produced 44 litres of soup. As it was the first soup making ministry, we would like to offer it to those in the Parish and the Orchard that would appreciate a warm bowl of soup. There is a non spicy vegetarian soup and a moderately spicy coconut thai chicken soup. Signi has also made 6 litres of cauliflower soup. There is a sign up sheet by the posters in the Orchard and the church, or you can email ginnygglover@gmail.com to indicate you would like some soup. Altar Flowers
I hope everyone is enjoying spring and all the lovely blooming things! It is so nice to have flowers on our Altar again after the Lenten season. Just a reminder that we would love to have donations for our flower fund so we can keep providing flowers, both for the Altar and so we can share them with parishioners after services. Estate Planning and Legacy Giving SeminarSaturday June 22, 2024 from 10am - 12pm The Church of St John the Divine Victoria, is pleased to present an estate planning/legacy giving seminar at 10:00 a.m. on June 22nd at the Bauman Centre, 925 Balmoral Road, Victoria. Estate plans are as unique as the individuals creating them which is why it is crucial to customize plans to align with specific goals. In this seminar, we will look at wills, tax saving implications and the importance of legacy giving. Doors open 9:30 a.m. Refreshments will be served. The seminar will begin at 10 a.m.; there will be a question-and-answer period before the 12:00 pm end. The event is provided free of charge to the community. June Outreach - PWRDF: Gaza and West Bank Emergency AppealDiocese of Jerusalem Alliance of Anglican organizations The Key Objectives outlined: “Support for the most vulnerable people who were directly affected by the ongoing situation in between Hamas and Israel, to receive quality in-patient and outpatient health services at the Diocese of Jerusalem Health Institutions in the West Bank. Support for the wounded and traumatized in Gaza to receive medical interventions (inpatient and outpatient).” During the month of June please join your Social Justice and Outreach Team by focusing your prayers and support for the PWRDF Gaza and West Bank Emergency Appeal. PWRDF and its grass roots partners continue to serve the most vulnerable people of this World. Evening Prayer Service at St. Michael's Anglican ChurchWednesday June 26th - 5pm St. Michael's Anglican Church (4733 West Saanich Road, Victoria) invites you to a 30-minute service of Evening Prayer in its outdoor worship space (rain location: the church) on Wednesday, June 26th, at 5 pm. This service will include a couple of brief readings, three varied pieces of music, and time for quiet reflection and prayer. 2024 Amazing Journey Day CampMending God's World The theme for this year's Amazing Journey Day Camp is Mending God's World. The Camp will held July 22nd to July 26th, in the mornings, 9 am to noon at Church of the Cross. Children born January 1, 2013 to June 30, 2020 are eligible to be campers. We are also looking for Middle School students to be Leaders in Training and High School students to be Small Group Leaders. Children with special needs may attend with an assistant. We recently received the news that we did not receive the CMHC seed funding grant we had applied for. We declined to pursue an option to apply for a loan instead, as there was a short timeline to make a decision. We expect to receive the Depreciation Reports on our buildings by the end of June, at which time we will be in a position to consider next steps.
