Territorial Acknowledgment
St George’s Cadboro Bay respectfully acknowledges the land we stand and pray on. The soil here holds the history and footsteps of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. On the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, we uphold the hopeful and healing spirit of reconciliation. We promise to walk with truth and love in those footprints that connect and ground us. |

Reflections with Tapestry, a Taize EnsembleMusic, poems, and readings to calm your spirit and soothe your soul - Sunday, May 12, 2024 The month's Reflections will feature Tapestry, St. Luke's Taizé Ensemble, along with music and prayers in the style of Taizé. Please join us for a unique and uplifting service of beautiful music and inspirational words, conducive to meditative reflection and spirituality. The readings, prayers, and music of this special Reflection Time will calm your spirit and soothe your soul. About This Service Referencing the seasons, the service acknowledges the liturgical calendar through both the words and the music. The theme, introduced through the words, is given added depth through the music. The gorgeous ambience of the softly lit church adds to contemplative atmosphere that places us in a state of prayer. Reflections provides another way to encounter the Divine. Please come and be a part of this unique experience. Donations to support this innovative venture and its continuance will be gratefully received at the door. "From Truth to Reconciliation" with Ry MoranWednesday May 15, 7:00pm As a Diocese we understand ourselves to be at the beginning of the long road to Truth and Reconciliation. This 90-minute presentation of spoken word, video footage, music and song, speaks to the ongoing work of truth telling, reconciliation, healing and peace making that we have committed to undertake. Currently UVIC's Associate University Librarian - Reconciliation, Ry Moran served as the Director of Statement Gathering for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (2010-2015) and then as founding Director of the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR). His work of service to truth and reconciliation and human rights has brought him national and international recognition, including most recently, the announcement from UBC that he is this year's recipient of an honorary Doctorate of Law degree from that institution. Please plan to attend what will be a remarkable and possibly life-changing event. To join the event via Zoom, CLICK HERE. Just a reminder that we would love to have donations for our flower fund so we can keep providing flowers, both for the Altar and so we can share them with parishioners after services. Please contact Sandra Moore 250-721-1920 if you wish to have a dedication in the bulletin. Donations to our general flower fund can be dropped in the collection plate at any time. More Blessed Than We Know - ReceptionRoberta Pyx Sutherland - Friday, May 24, 2024 St. Matthias is delighted to welcome Roberta Pyx Sutherland to The Chapel Gallery, with her exhibit More Blessed Than We Know. Please enjoy Roberta Pyx Sutherland's comment about this exhibit: The Cup, the Bowl, the chalice, the font….a final urn.
All vessels that sustain and nurture us be it precious water, mindful zen tea, sacred wine, or a coffee that comes with friendship. With awareness we receive these offerings finding the generous blessings they embody. Slowing down we receive and open to gratitude. These moments are countless ... cross culturally, globally we continually partake. Historically we find the cup part of mystical language, an ancient and timeless symbol. There are numerous references to the cup in the Torah and the Bible. Perhaps the most familiar would be the 23rd Psalm, in the King James Version, ‘My cup runneth over, surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever’. Could blessings be spoken more completely or more eloquently?
Artist's talk at 7pm on May 24.
The exhibit will run from May 24-June 8, 2024, with Gallery Hours on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 2 pm. The Chapel Gallery is located at 600 Richmond Avenue, Victoria.
