Territorial Acknowledgment
St George’s Cadboro Bay respectfully acknowledges the land we stand and pray on. The soil here holds the history and footsteps of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. On the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, we uphold the hopeful and healing spirit of reconciliation. We promise to walk with truth and love in those footprints that connect and ground us. |

Soup Making MinistrySoup available for parishioners Last month a group got together and produced 44 litres of soup. As it was the first soup making ministry, we would like to offer it to those in the Parish and the Orchard that would appreciate a warm bowl of soup. There is a non spicy vegetarian soup and a moderately spicy coconut thai chicken soup. Signi has also made 6 litres of cauliflower soup. Ginny Glover will be available to distribute soup after the 10am service on June 2nd. There will be a sign up sheet by the posters in the Orchard and the church, or you can email ginnygglover@gmail.com to indicate you would like some soup. Also if you know anyone in the Parish, Orchard or Cadboro Bay community that would appreciate a litre of soup, please let us know. We are planning to gather again in the fall to make more soup and would like to expand our reach to possibly Transition House, Harrison House and the Shelbourne Soup Kitchen. We would also appreciate any volunteers that would like to help chop on the soup making day. Image by Ella Olsson |
Pastoral Care
A pastoral care committee is being formed to help people in various ways. That might mean a simple phone call, a visit with soup for a chat, or something else. Sheila is coordinating, along with Don, Margaret, Jayne and Patty. As always, please feel free to contact Christine with any pastoral needs. |

Altar Flowers
I hope everyone is enjoying spring and all the lovely blooming things! It is so nice to have flowers on our Altar again after the Lenten season. Just a reminder that we would love to have donations for our flower fund so we can keep providing flowers, both for the Altar and so we can share them with parishioners after services. Please contact Sandra Moore 250-721-1920 if you wish to have a dedication in the bulletin. Donations to our general flower fund can be dropped in the collection plate at any time. Sound systemConnecting with worship We know that hearing all that goes on at worship can be troublesome - or touch and go - for some people. Our system includes a "T Coil" induction loop system that some hearing aids can connect with directly. If you're having trouble hearing during worship, please connect with Michael Marriott (michael_marriott@telus.net), who may be able to help get you better connected. |

Beer & HymnsA good old-fashioned hymn sing... with beer! - Friday, June 7, 2024 An old-fashioned hymn sing with a twist! More Blessed Than We Know Exhibit - Roberta Pyx SutherlandMay 24 - June 8 St. Matthias is delighted to welcome Roberta Pyx Sutherland to The Chapel Gallery, with her exhibit More Blessed Than We Know. Please enjoy Roberta Pyx Sutherland's comment about this exhibit: The Cup, the Bowl, the chalice, the font….a final urn.
All vessels that sustain and nurture us be it precious water, mindful zen tea, sacred wine, or a coffee that comes with friendship. With awareness we receive these offerings finding the generous blessings they embody. Slowing down we receive and open to gratitude. These moments are countless ... cross culturally, globally we continually partake. Historically we find the cup part of mystical language, an ancient and timeless symbol. There are numerous references to the cup in the Torah and the Bible. Perhaps the most familiar would be the 23rd Psalm, in the King James Version, ‘My cup runneth over, surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever’. Could blessings be spoken more completely or more eloquently?
The exhibit will run from May 24-June 8, 2024, with Gallery Hours on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 2 pm. The Chapel Gallery is located at 600 Richmond Avenue, Victoria.
