Territorial Acknowledgment
St George’s Cadboro Bay respectfully acknowledges the land we stand and pray on. The soil here holds the history and footsteps of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. On the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, we uphold the hopeful and healing spirit of reconciliation. We promise to walk with truth and love in those footprints that connect and ground us. |

Shelbourne Community Kitchen
The Community Kitchen continues to be very grateful to St Georges for the weekly food donations. Thank you for continuing to support this worthy agency. Keep alert for two forth coming Shelbourne Community Kitchen fund raising concerts, to be held at St George’s! |
Phishing in the Diocese
Phishing happens regularly here at St. George's, alongside an increase throughout our diocese. Phishing is defined as the practice of sending emails or other messages purporting to be from reputable companies or people in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords, credit card numbers or to send e-transfers. Any email can be given a display name of the creators choosing. For example, anyone can set up an email for themselves and make it look like it comes from Christine Conkin in your inbox. The church will never contact you asking for gift cards, credit card numbers or e-transfers of any kind. When in doubt, please always contact Sage or Christine (or whoever an email purports to be from). Read more below. For more infomation visit: https://www.stgeorgecadborobay.ca/pages/a-letter-from-anna-van-der-hooft-on-phishing

WELCOME to the ARC
At the March 26th meeting of Parish Council, a Motion was approved to establish a preliminary committee to begin gathering information on St. George's assets (buildings and land) and other information from the Diocese. This is a follow-up to the August 2nd Information Session held at the church, where Brendon Neilson, Executive Director of our Diocese, came to speak about possibilities for St. George's into the future. The full name of this committee is the “Asset Review Committee for a Sustainable Future” (“ARC” for short.) Members of the Committee are John Oldale, Jennifer Handley, Marilyn Pattison, Leslie Glazier and Gary Fisher. The ARC team will be reporting regularly on their work, which will include setting up opportunities for input from the St. George's community. Stay tuned for future information! |
2023 August 31 Year-To-Date parish Finance Report
This update covers the first eight months of 2023. The September statement has not been compiled as yet. TOTAL INCOME $210,486 vs Budget $210,183 for positive variance of $303. TOTAL EXPENSE $221,950 vs Budget $223,867 for a positive variance of $1,916. NET OPERATING INCOME (Surplus/Deficit) at –($11,464) vs Budget of –($13,683) results in a positive variance of $2,219. This is a good position at this end of summer point, when we are usually reporting a deficit position. INCOME NOTES: #4300 Social/Community Events Donations – Although this account series is benefitting from Other Parish Fundraising through hanging basket sales and jigsaw puzzle sales, the Income here is short by $2,544 on Budget of $10,000. Donations beyond our original campaign to fund this area back in February/March are nominal. That said, the aligned Expense account of #7290 Fellowship & Meetings Expense is well underspent. EXPENSE NOTES: There will be a re-allocation of $5,930 to Capital Expense from #7630 Equipment & Supplies Operating Expense for new Audio equipment and signage paid by that account. That action will result in an even better Net Operating Income. THANK YOU for your continuing support of St. George's many Ministries. Yours in Christ, Lawrence Saracuse, Treasurer |
