St. Mary Saanichton, Parish of Central Saanich, invites applications for the position of Church Musician.
The position involves work beginning January 16th, 2023.
Church Musician will ensure worship services are enhanced through the use of music (instrumental and possibly choral).
Duties of Position: Provide the music for the 9 a.m. Sunday worship services: and provide musical accompaniment on the organ and/or piano.
Take direction from and collaborate with the incumbent/rector, who will select appropriate hymns and anthems for all services and liturgical seasons.
Communicate well with the church administrator to provide hymn/song lyrics and other materials as required for church bulletin production in a timely manner.
Upon request, provide music for all weddings and funerals, which carry additional honorarium.
Ideal candidates will possess the following: Availability beginning January 16th, 2023, or soon thereafter. This is an initial 1-year letter of appointment with possible renewal.
Well-honed interpersonal skills, strong ability to collaborate with a community of staff and volunteers.
Experience with Christian music leadership, ability to integrate a variety of traditional musical styles into worship in support of specific liturgical themes.
Competency on the organ/piano, both as a collaborative musician, to support hymn singing and accompany the choir/soloists and/or as a soloist to offer repertoire for postludes/preludes. Choral requirements are possibly negotiable.
Required of the position: familiarity with Anglican Church of Canada traditions, worship and music.
Instrument(s) at the church: Classic Rodgers Organ (in choir loft)/ Steigerman Grand Piano (on Sanctuary floor)/ Heintzman Upright Piano (in hall for practice), Yamaha Portable Grand (DGX-305).
Compensation: Based on scope work detailed in of letter of appointment.
