Topic: Introducing Mindfulness: Let’s get Curious!
Maryse was born in Toronto but has lived on the West Coast for the majority of
her 50 years. Maryse went to the University of British Columbia and earned three
degrees: Bachelor of Arts, 1993; Bachelor of Social Work, 1995; and a Masters
Degree in Social Work in 1996.
Maryse was the first Director of the St. Paul’s Anglican Church Advocacy Office
in Vancouver and is now the Director of Health Promotion for Canadian Forces
Base Esquimalt. She develops and teaches courses for UVIC’s Continuing
Education department whilst running a busy private counselling practice.
As a social worker, health promoter, and counsellor, learning about mindfulness
is an important part of her continuing education and evolution. Cultivating a
practice of mindfulness is a whole other labour of love where she finds herself
succeeding as often as she fails. Good thing one can be mindful even about the
things that don’t come easily – perhaps this is where mindfulness is especially
helpful!
