This year we are introducing a Christingle service to our Advent events. These are becoming increasingly popular in churches around the world.
The service itself dates back to the Moravian church in Germany. At a children’s service in Marienborn in 1747, Bishop Johannes de Watteville looked for a simple way to explain the happiness that had come to people through Jesus and created a symbol — the Christingle — to do this.
Christingle is a joyful celebration that brings families and communities together to share the light of Jesus and spread a message of hope. Christingles are oranges wrapped in red tape, decorated with dried fruit or sweets, with a candle on the top. Children will make their own Christingles to be lit during the service.
Please register your child by emailing HERE to join our Christingle-making workshop - we will provide all the materials - and please bring a small toy to donate to a local charity.
The workshop begins at 4.30pm in the Chapter Room, followed by a service at 5pm in the Nave.
