"Moving with the Winds of God" Parish RetreatOur parish retreat "Moving with the Winds of God" is next weekend! Barbara Colebrook Peace wrote a poem for the occasion, reflecting on John 6:15-21. CLICK HERE to read "Glimmer." If you have not already filled out the registration form, please do so now by clicking here. (Reminder there is a $10 fee to cover the cost of food, that can be paid with cash at the church during office hours.) Thanks to all who completed the questionnaire. CLICK HERE to see the results! And CLICK HERE for the schedule of events! The retreat will be held at St. George’s on the weekend of November 22-24. We will begin Friday (Nov 22) at 5pm with Holden Evening Prayer, followed by a parish dinner. After dinner we will reflect together on the results of the questionnaire, and be introduced to the “Open Space” process for Saturday, finishing by 8pm. We’ll begin Saturday at 9:30am and finish no later than 3pm. Coffee, tea and lunch will be provided. If you need a ride to attend Friday or Saturday, please let us know in the office. Men's BreakfastGerry Underhill will be doing a talk on his recent vacation in Scotland. Gerry will be speaking about the history, fantastic landscapes, (and of course a bit about uisge beatha). He went to a lot of out-of-the-way remote places in the Outer Hebrides and the Orkneys, with breathtaking white sand beaches and blue lagoons, rugged crags, and with some of the best Neolithic sites in the world. The Acts of the Apostles: A Book ClubOur fall "book club" series continues with a story of the early church. As the "sequel" to the Gospel of Luke, The Acts of the Apostles continues the story of Jesus through the story of birth of Christ's church. From the empty tomb, all the way to Rome, you can expect to encounter wind and fire; and, high drama as an emerging community of faith struggles to find its way. Controversy, arrests, murder, prison-breaks and a ship wreck make it a page-turner! Join in the conversation! This will be a time of discussion, not presentation. Please read the section of the "Acts of the Apostles" per the schedule below, in preparation for our discussion, as you might for any other book club. Monthly Outreach - Update!Our Outreach feature for November is the St George’s Refugee Fund. As many of you know Ruth and Tesfalem have safely arrived in their new Victoria home! However, due to cost of living increases we have had to amend our sponsorship budget, which was set 5 years ago. The Refugee Team appreciates the Grace with which people have already donated financially as well as setting up their home. With the support of our Social Justice and Outreach Team we are now asking for a last final push to add $10,000 plus to the budget to help our commitment to Ruth and Tesfalem until September 2025. Our goal is to reach $10,000……we can now say that we are on our way, and hope to exceed this. All donations are gratefully accepted via several methods: The Outreach Blue Envelopes with cheque or cash, or indeed any Envelope dropped off at the Church Office, also online with Tithel.y. All formats should be clearly defined as “St George’s Refugee Fund”. This also means that tax receipts will be available via the Church. Prayerfully submitted by your Refugee Team: David, John, Jennifer, Peter and Rosamund. |
