St. George’s has been a proud supporter of the Rainbow Kitchen for over ten years!

The Rainbow Kitchen is open Monday to Friday (except Stat. Holidays) at Esquimalt United Church, where volunteers cook and serve a hot meal to 100-150 people. Rainbow Kitchen provides an opportunity for low income and marginalized people to come not only for physical nourishment but also to meet other needs such as social, spiritual, and perhaps simply something to look forward to in their day. The people who come to Rainbow Kitchen have a variety of needs and a range of personal circumstances. Volunteers are encouraged to sit and eat with the guests, to learn about their lives, to understand their struggles without judgment and to learn their names and greet them as friends each week.

St. George’s comprises about one-quarter of the volunteers who contribute each Monday, and we’re always looking for more volunteers to help pick up produce, prepare food, cook, serve and clean-up. Whether you’re a skilled chef or you’ve never boiled an egg, there’s a role you can play. St. George’s also makes regular donations to buy ingredients for meals, and there are several fundraiser’s at St. George’s each year that support Rainbow Kitchen, including the annual Dragon Song Mother’s Day Concert and Strawberry Tea, the Dragon Song Christmas Concert, and proceeds from St. George’s weekly Tuesday Lunch.
