The Rev. Ian Powell
Interim Priest in Charge
Ian is a bi-vocational priest of the Diocese, and as such he is often called upon by the Bishop to assist a parish, during a transitional time. Ian is with us at St. George’s as we search for a new Rector and that individual is able to take up their position.
Ian was ordained in 2008 and when not assigned to a parish, is a member of the clergy at Christ Church Cathedral. The other half of the “bi-vocational” refers to the fact that Ian also works in the secular world. He has been an Hotelier for over 35 years and is currently the Managing Director of a small hotel company here in Victoria, whose principal asset is the Inn at Laurel Point (yes he accepts reservations at the end of services – or any time, now you mention it).
Tara joined the team at St. George's in early 2015. Tara's family became parishioners at St. George's in 2000 when they moved to Victoria from Vancouver. Tara has a degree in Creative Writing from the University of Victoria, and her work-background is primarily administrative. She has worked in adminstrative roles in both the book publishing and commercial construction industries. As an administrator, she loves problem-solving and making order out of chaos, and in particular, likes to utilize new technologies to achieve these goals. Tara and her husband live on a small hobby farm with their two dogs and three cats.
Lawrence joined St. George's parish in 2000 and has been an avid contributor to the parish since his arrival. He's held the positions of Administrant and Stewardship Coordinator, and he's been a Parish Council Member for over ten years. He's a keen volunteer for several of St. George's programs, including Men's Breakfast, the Rainbow Kitchen, the Spring Fling, and the Christmas Fair. He is currently St. George's Treasurer, a role to which he brings great experience. Having spent a 30-year career managing high-end restaurants, hotels and private golf clubs, Lawrence is well-versed in the financial and budgetary needs of any organization, and he's contributed to St. George's financial health since taking the position. He has been an aide to the success of St. George's Hall Kitchen Renovation in 2013 and to the Narthex Redevelopment Project over 2014/15. Lawrence and his wife have two grown children and two grand-dogs, and they enjoy the outdoors, food, and entertaining friends.
Family Life Coordinator
Leslie is the go-to person for all things related to young people at St. George's. She sees her role at St. George's as full circle, as she grew up going to Sunday school and Youth Group in this parish. Leslie moved to the mainland to go to school and received her BA in Psychology and a minor in Human Services from Trinity Western University. Having just returned to Victoria from 2 years living in Sheffield, England, she is excited to use her experience of running Sunday schools, youth groups and young adult bible studies to develop programs and worship opportunities for families, youth and young adults. When Leslie is not at work, she enjoys playing board games with her partner Andy, reading the news, and going to the gym.
Marlon Narciso joined the St. George's team as Music Director in 2012. Marlon came from the Philippines in 1975 and has been directing church choirs since 2000. He has also led, developed and performed with contemporary children, youth and adult singing groups in benefit concerts and other fundraisers for worthy causes. Currently, he is a single act and also part of a duo, MC2, playing for dances and other musical engagements. Outside of performances, he produces, arranges and engineers other musicians’ projects in his recording studio at home. He also writes with a music partner and arranges their choral and contemporary Christian music to be published in their own company, ChoralZone. Marlon is so much happier now being “home,” leaving out-of-town and cruise ship performances behind to better serve the Lord and his family with his music. He is married to Leila. They have three grown children, a son and two daughters.
